Nepal Telecom Subisu Cablenet has partnered with Nokia, a Finnish supplier, to expand its fiber optic network and promote fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment.
In its press release, Nokia said that it will provide GPON solutions for Nepalese telecommunications company Subisu Cablenet, helping Subisu expand its network to reach new customers who can access "ultra-broadband" applications and services.
The Telecommunications Authority of Nepal (NTA) selected Subisu to establish an FTTH network for eight districts in the second province. The new network will provide digital TV, IPTV and high-speed broadband services up to 1 Gbps.
Subisu said that the deployment of the new optical fiber network is in line with the government's vision for the digital society. By 2020, the government plans to achieve broadband coverage of more than 90%.
